Gabriel Guillén, como disse o guitarrista grego Costas Cotsiolis no Festival Kutná Hora, na República Checa, é por excelência o guitarrista venezuelano da nova geração. Nascido em Maracay, Venezuela, começou a estudar guitarra muito cedo com os mestres Reinaldo Monroe e Mario Vidalin em Caracas. De 1982 a 1987, participou em master classes com maestros Abel Carlevaro, Rafael Benatar e Abraham Abreu.
Apresentou-se em vários locais da Venezuela, tais como o Banco Central de Venezuela, onde estreou obras do compositor venezuelano Carlos Atilano; Sala Rómulo Gallegos; Museo del Teclado; Festival de Guitarra de Los Teques… e gravou para o programa televisivo “Clasicos Dominicales”. Em 1987 ganha o terceiro prémio no concurso Antonio Lauro em Valência (Venezuela) e ao mesmo tempo ganha o primeiro prémio na selecção do Rotary International, Rotary Club Chacao. Em 1988 obteve uma bolsa para estudar em Viena, Áustria, onde estudou com Walter Würdinger e Konrad Ragossnig, onde foi seleccionado para o projecto de intercâmbio das universidades de música de Viena e Malmö (Suécia) em 1989. Licenciou-se com as mais altas honras na Escola de Música e Artes Performativas de Viena com os títulos de “Magister artium” (Mestre das Artes) e recebeu o Prémio Internacional de Mérito e Reconhecimento do Governo Austríaco. Na Suíça graduou-se no Conservatório de Música de Zurique sob a direcção de Konrad Ragossnig.
Entre 1990 e 1992 actuou na Hungria, Alemanha, Itália, Bélgica e Áustria.
Em 1992, obteve uma posição competitiva no Conservatório Joseph Haydn em Eisenstadt, Áustria.
Desde 1998, tem sido director artístico do festival internacional de guitarra Rust/Austria e é constantemente convidado para festivais, concertos, júri de concursos em 38 países, professor de masterclass no Japão, China, EUA, Argentina, Brasil, Uruguai, Costa Rica, Antilhas Holandesas, México, Rússia e em quase todos os países europeus. Foi solista com várias orquestras na Ásia, Europa e América do Sul sob a direcção de maestros como Leo Brouwer e Georg Kugi, entre outros.
No mundo dos festivais de guitarra clássica, Gabriel Guillén actuou em festivais de renome internacional (incluindo o GFA nos Estados Unidos da América, Festival Guitarras del Mundo na Argentina, Festival de Morelia no México, Festival Mauro Giuliani em Itália sob a batuta de Leo Brouwer) e é reconhecido como uma das figuras mais importantes no mundo da guitarra (em várias declarações feitas por Colin Cooper para a revista Classical Guitarras).
Ele tem a seu crédito 10 CDs lançados na Áustria, Eslováquia, Ucrânia, China e Itália. Trabalhos para guitarra dos compositores John Duarte, Jovan Pesec, Jaume Torrent, Carlos Atilano, Otto Strobl e outros têm sido dedicados a ele. Recebeu os prémios do “Artinger Stiftung”, o prémio “Keri” do governo de Burgenland na Áustria e recentemente o prémio “Citta de Fiuggi” em Itália pela sua carreira de concertista.

Gabriel Guillén, as the Greek guitarist Costas Cotsiolis said at the Kutná Hora Festival in the Czech Republic, is par excellence the Venezuelan guitarist of the new generation. Born in Maracay, Venezuela, he began studying the guitar at a very early age with masters Reinaldo Monroe and Mario Vidalin in Caracas. From 1982 to 1987 he took part in master classes with maestros Abel Carlevaro, Rafael Benatar and Abraham Abreu.
He performed in various venues in Venezuela, such as the Banco Central de Venezuela, where he premiered works by the Venezuelan composer Carlos Atilano; Sala Rómulo Gallegos; Museo del Teclado; Festival de Guitarra de Los Teques… and recorded for the television programme “Clasicos Dominicales”. In 1987 he wins the third prize in the Antonio Lauro competition in Valencia (Venezuela) and at the same time he wins the first prize in the selection of the Rotary International, Rotary Club Chacao. In 1988 he obtained a scholarship to study in Vienna, Austria, where he studied with Walter Würdinger and Konrad Ragossnig, where he was selected for the exchange project of the music universities of Vienna and Malmö (Sweden) in 1989. He graduated with the highest honours from the Vienna School of Music and Performing Arts with the titles of “Magister artium” (Master of the Arts) and was awarded the International Award of Merit and Recognition by the Austrian government. In Switzerland he graduated from the Zürich Conservatory of Music under the direction of Konrad Ragossnig.
Between 1990 and 1992 he performed in Hungary, Germany, Italy, Belgium and Austria.
In 1992 he obtained a competitive position at the Joseph Haydn Conservatory in Eisenstadt, Austria.
Since 1998 he has been artistic director of the international guitar festival Rust/Austria and is constantly invited to festivals, concerts, jury of competitions in 38 countries, masterclass teacher in Japan, China, USA, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Costa Rica, Netherlands Antilles, Mexico, Russia and in almost all European countries. He has been a soloist with various orchestras in Asia, Europe and South America under the direction of conductors such as Leo Brouwer and Georg Kugi among others.
In the world of classical guitar festivals, Gabriel Guillén has performed in festivals of international renown (including the GFA in the United States of America, Festival Guitarras del Mundo in Argentina, Festival de Morelia in Mexico, Festival Mauro Giuliani in Italy under the baton of Leo Brouwer) and is recognised as one of the most important figures in the world of guitar (in several statements made by Colin Cooper for Classical Guitar magazine).
He has to his credit 10 CDs released in Austria, Slovakia, Ukraine, China and Italy.
